I did my paper on Jackie Mitchell. But I also need
to tie in other women sports players and statics that can back up why Jackie Mitchell
was never heard or talk about. She is a famous baseball player. So these are my
teacher instruction. I hope
you can engage, research, synthesis, argument, and inquiry to produce
a strong academic paper that addresses a clear research question. Your
research paper should be guided by a question regarding your belief
system. In essence, your paper should respond to your research question
and contribute to a larger dialog about God, faith, Christianity, community, or
any combination of the aforementioned.
When completed, your paper should be 7-9 pages
(that’s about 3,500-4,500 words) excluding the works cited page. If your
paper has not moved through the ENTIRE drafting process, you will not receive
full credit or garner a passing grade for this course.
Your paper must include five components:
• An introduction is a part of every
academic essay. Remember, your introduction brings your reader into your
world. So be sure that your introduction is well-crafted and leads
directly into your thesis statement which shares the purpose of your
inquiry and what you want your readers to think, feel, change, do, or
• Evidence from at least four credible,
CRAAP-tested sources. Your evidence should include a combination of the
o Journal articles
• A solution to the problem your
paper presents. Most, if not all, researched arguments present a
problem. Your paper should not only present the problem as identified by
your thesis, but it should also provide information that leads to a solution
• A refutation is a way of addressing
any arguments that are counter to those in your paper. Your paper should
present an opposing view AND address the opposing view with sufficient evidence
gleaned from your analysis of credible sources.
• Just as your introduction brings your reader
into the world of your paper, your conclusion sends your reader back
out into the world having learned something new. It doesn’t merely repeat
the thesis, but rather provides points to ponder and a possible call to action.
Support your paper’s argument using credible
sources. Take care that you:
• Cite your sources correctly
• Cite whether you paraphrase, summarize, or
• Properly introduce any information you include
from outside sources
• Explain how the source you are using
addresses your inquiry
• Include 2-4 source references per page
• Include a properly formatted works cited page
at the end of your essay
A FEW OTHER THINGS TO CONSIDER:
• Begin by introducing your topic and proposing
a thesis statement
• Consider sharing the history of the issue you
are addressing in your paper
o When did your topic become an issue?
o How long have other people been discussing
o What has been said over the years?
• Consider what is at the heart of your
o What is at risk?
o Is the issue good or bad?
o Why should readers consider more information
about your topic?
• Consider other voices
o Who else has been talking about the issue?
o What are they saying?
o What are YOU saying about what THEY are
• Consider a solution?
o What should be done next?
o How will things change?
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT
The ultimate goal in completing this paper
is to convince your reader that you have done enough research to establish
1. Why the topic is important to you
2. Why the topic should be important to the
That said, you should be the expert in residence on
your topic. The reader should be able to follow a clear train of thought
from the beginning of your paper to the end.
