1) Please compare the differing experiences of the Chinese and Japanese. Besides the anti-Asian discrimination that both of these groups experienced, how similarly or differently did these communities develope in America? What role did or does the observance of traditional cultural and religious practices appear to play in building and uniting these two differing immigrant communities? How do such traditions reinforce ethnic and religious identity more broadly? At the same time, how might ethnic and religious traditions hinder an immigrant community’s development and progress in the host country?
