Experimental research is conducted to test a specific hypothesis. In experimental research, the researcher has complete control over the independent variable. The researcher can manipulate the independent variable to see how it affects the dependent variable. An example of experimental research would be a study in which members are assigned to either a treatment cluster or a control group, and the researcher observes the effects of the treatment on the participants (Rogers & Revesz.,2019). Experimental research designs are advantageous because they allow researchers to gain a great deal of control over the variables in a study. This control is essential because it allows researchers to isolate specific variables and determine how they affect the outcome of a study. Additionally, experimental designs are often used to test hypotheses or to examine cause-and-effect relationships.
Quasi-experimental research is conducted to test a specific hypothesis. In quasi-experimental research, the investigator does not have complete regulation over the independent variable (Borusyak et al.,2022). The researcher cannot operate the independent variable. A quasi-experimental study might be conducted to compare the outcomes of two different educational programs. One group of students would receive the new program, while the other would receive the traditional program. The two groups would be compared on various outcomes, such as standardized test scores, grades, and drop-out rates.
Nonexperimental research is conducted to observe and describe a phenomenon. In non-experimental research, the researcher cannot control the independent variable. The researcher cannot deploy the independent variable. An example of nonexperimental research would be a study that looks at the relationship between income and happiness. In this study, researchers would collect data on people’s incomes and levels of happiness but would not manipulate any variables.
