Quality insurance is defined as any systematic process of determining whether a product or service meets specified requirements; it establishes and maintains set requirements for developing or manufacturing reliable products.
Most hospitals are considered high-reliability organizations (HROs) because they must strive for commitments to quality objectives and policies to provide quality care. Quality of care includes purposes related to effectiveness, efficiency, and the patient experience. Although most health care organizations are well aware that it is essential to promote safety within their medical practices, it is also necessary to measure quality assurance. It is interesting to note that patient safety culture has been at the forefront of analysis; however, few studies have analyzed the relationship between safety culture and the perceived quality from the patient’s perspective.
The health care industry has evolved into customer service and the quality industry. When it comes to quality assurance in nursing, the motion of quality and cost-effective outcomes in an organization occurs by interpreting and applying the policies while coordinating with the needs of the patients. One example that comes to mind is the study of catheter-related urinary tract infections and the increased push by the administration on doctors and nurses to monitor the reason a Foley is placed and to reassess daily when that foley can be discontinued as soon as possible.
