Stephanie-DOI is an enduring social science theory. It’s derived from the 1962 book Diffusion of Innovations (New York: Free Press of Glencoe). Written by Everett M. Rogers, a communication theorist and sociologist. Diffusion of innovation theory seeks to explain the adoption of new ideas and technologies. How and why they spread among people. And at what rate of speed.” (Sirk, C. 2020, August 21) This article provided mass amounts of insight on how changes happen consistently in healthcare and that diffusion plays a big process in this. Many changes have occurred in the last 3 years that were affected by diffusion such as the pandemic. Healthcare had to conform to a new type of style, in order to allow business to be conducted. “Future technological innovation is going to keep transforming healthcare, yet while technologies (new drugs and treatments, new devices, new social media support for healthcare, etc) will drive innovation, human factors will remain one of the stable limitations of breakthroughs.” (Thimbleby, H. 2013, December 1)

Juan- After reading the article “Diffusion of Innovations Theory, Principles, And Practice” by Everett M. Rogers, I understood that diffusion is a social process that occurs among people in response to learning about innovation, an idea, and approaches to diverse ways to improve healthcare. (Dearing & Cox, 2018) Diffusion and change are the same point of view in which both refer to the process of adopting innovative technologies and ideas based on the situation. (Binninger, 2017) I see diffusion as how quickly the healthcare system, the population, and policies change and adapt to the everyday changes in healthcare and the world. For example, Covid-19 made a diffusion impact change globally in the healthcare system through policy, patient care, and innovative technologies. Covid-19 marks a global race between nations to create the first successful vaccine and treatment to eradicate the increase of the virus. Moreover, changes in police in hospitals and clinics have been proved related to advancements in health care and healthcare professionals using advancing technologies. (Chia Cua & Garrett, 2009) For example, the development of the new drug named paxlovid that now is prescribed to patients diagnosed with covid. Paxlovid is a five-day treatment that improves the patient’s health on the third day and reduces any complications to the patient’s health. In addition, thanks to the new advancements in health care like the vaccines and drug treatments of the Covid1-19 virus, nationally the virus has been maintained more under control than a year ago.
