As a manger, one way you can monitor employee performace is by reviewing their work at the end of the day. Due to experience I can say that having a boss who hovers over you to make sure you are doing your work can be too much. It personally discouraged me to do my work and after a while of it happening multiple times a day, it made me not want to be there. Reviewing their work on your own without you hovering over them will allow a manger to see how they are doing on their work but it will also not discourage employees by having someone over their shoulder all day. If a manager does see domething wrong within the work they can personally pull them aside and mention that there was something they noticed that they could work on but also give them a positive thing they have done with their work so the employee does not feel discouraged.
As a manager it is very important that employee performance is monitored. One of the most effective ways to monitor an employees’s performance is with your own eyes. Watching how an employee deals with customers or other staff for a few minutes will tell you alot about the employee’s performance. Reviewing the work in progress on a regular basis also helps. Check the employees work carefully in process along the way. lastly, assist the employee with using self-monitoring tools. The employee would document their progress using checklists and activity logs.
